The findings last year by the FAA prompted the government to advocate that the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization call for a ban on electronic devices larger than a mobile phone in checked bags. That effort fell short, Pfund said.“One way or another, we have to deal with these hazards,” said Scott Schwartz, director of the Air Line Pilots Association’s hazardous goods program. The association, the largest pilots union in North America, is holding its annual safety conference. It hasn’t taken a formal position on whether there should be a ban on lithium batteries in checked bags and some fear that many passengers would simply ignore it. At the very least, the union is seeking greater education campaigns so travelers are less likely to place spare batteries and electronics in their checked bags. While fires in carry-on items create their own hazards on flights, experience has shown that they can be extinguished with water. Crew can’t reach bags in cargo areas during flight, so must rely on a plane’s fire-suppression systems.

The U.S. Homeland Security Department in June 2017 funneled more such electronics into cargo holds out of fears that electronics as small as a tablet computer could be used to hide terrorist bombs. The agency stopped short of a threatened ban on taking the devices into airline cabins but required additional screening of electronics. The FAA hasn’t imposed any new restrictions on what passengers may pack in checked bags. Last year, in a notice to airlines, it said they should conduct a safety study to determine what more they should do to limit the risks of battery fires in cargo areas. The FAA tests found that the anti-fire halon gas installed in airline cargo areas wouldn’t extinguish a lithium-battery fire, but it would prevent the blaze from spreading to adjacent material such as cardboard or clothing.

After updating to Windows 10 Spring 2018 Update, my laptop's battery stopped charging. (This situation was neither one of the update's best new features nor its hidden gems.) My laptop would show it was plugged in, but then at the same time it would tell me it was also not charging. Thankfully, I found that this problem was not uncommon and would occasionally arise after a Windows update. And more thankfully, there was an easy fix. Here's how I got my laptop's battery back to charging when it was plugged in.Right-click on each item and choose Uninstall device. Yes, you are uninstalling your laptop's battery drivers, but don't worry because they will automatically be reinstalled when you restart your laptop. Shut down your laptop. Unplug the power cable from your laptop. If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it. My Lenovo laptop does not have a removable battery. I tried skipping this step but it didn't work, so I removed the bottom panel of my laptop and then removed the battery by disconnecting it from the motherboard. Put the battery back in if you removed it. By reinstalling my Lenovo laptop's battery drivers and disconnecting its battery and then reconnecting it, I got my laptop's battery back to charging when it's plugged in. With differences in manufacturers, your mileage may vary. If you encountered this plugged-in-not-charging problem and found a fix that differs from mine, please describe your method in the comments below.

MSI, a well-known brand in high-performance enthusiast PC hardware, has announced its new notebook designed for content creators and professionals, the P65 Notebook. The P65 is a powerful system with a simple clean design featuring high-end specs, and a thin-bezel display with what MSI says is a long-lasting battery.MSI Announces New P65 Notebook With 8th Gen i7 MSI aims to have the P65 give everything a content creator or business professional needs and wants to work quickly and efficiently. Creators that are constantly on the move and need to have desktop-grade power in a form factor they can easily carry around. With an i7 8th Gen CPU and dedicated graphics, the P65 gives users more than enough power to edit raw HD or 4K video, create motion graphics and fly through complicated spreadsheets on the go. The P65 also features a full suite of ports including an SD card reader, USB Type-C, USB Type-A, HDMI, micro-DisplayPort and an ethernet jack.

The 15-inch screen features MSI’s exclusive True Color 2.0 technology. MSI says that each panel is examined thoroughly and undergoes an extensive factory calibration process, so each color is displayed with precision. This results in a near perfect color presentation, with close to 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color spectrum. The IPS-level, 4.9mm thin-bezel panel is ideal for those who need extreme color accuracy when editing photos or videos. The high-performance specifications keep the P65 in close comparison with MSI’s top-of-the-line gaming offerings. The P65 features Intel’s latest 8th Generation Core i7 processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU. These specifications allow for faster rendering times and better multitasking. The P65 has up to almost three times more graphical performance than leading competitor in this category. The P65 uses MSI’s Cooler Boost Trinity, the same system found in its gaming laptops, to keep the notebook cool even during intense workloads.

The P65 features top-of-the-line specifications while maintaining a slim, portable form factor. With its ultra-light aluminum chassis, the P65 weighs just 4.14 pounds and measures 0.69 inches thick. However, the slim design does not sacrifice battery life. The P65 has an 82Whr battery for up to nine hours of regular use. In addition to the productivity features, the P65 uses a Windows Hello Certified fingerprint sensor for a high-privacy business security solution and supports Microsoft’s Cortana voice-enabled digital assistant. At launch, the new P65 will be available in both silver and a gorgeous limited-edition white. The White Limited Edition shares many of the same specifications as the Silver Edition, but comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU, Hi-Res Audio and Thunderbolt 3. At launch, the Silver Edition will be available with either a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q or GTX 1050 Ti. The White Limited Edition also comes in a beautiful wooden box and includes an extended one-year warranty and protective laptop sleeve.

Both of these products advertise a certain simplicity when it comes to setup, but there are some extra steps that generally get glossed over. In the case of the new official Vive adapter, you must have an extra PCIe 1x slot in your PC for an Intel WiGig card, which gets connected via coax cable to an antenna. That antenna can be mounted or can sit near your PC, as long as it has a view of your headset and attached wireless receiver. The biggest issue here is having an extra PCIe slot in your PC. Those who do not will have to get creative, whether with something like an M.2 to PCIe adapter card or external bay. There's not yet any confirmation that anything other than a standard PCIe slot will work with the WiGig card, so if you're stuck with a workaround only, I'd wait until there is confirmation that other methods work.
